For the moment there's only this external paper with regard to Shibboleth:
"This add on for the EPrints system enables a user to login using a Shibbleth authentication server. It does this whilst still maintaing the ability to login using the existing EPrints authentication scheme. This is acheived by altering the existing EPrints authentication to one that uses a simple cookie based authentication tracking scheme. A table is added to the database for each archive to track the cookies of currently logged in users."
