EPrints 3 can be easily translated into any language and multi-lingual repositories can be made. To do a it you simply need to copy the phrase files in the lang/ directory to you chosen lanugage and translate the phrase files. Below are some more guides and information about translating EPrints. Remember if you make a successful translation you can upload it to files.eprints.org so that other people can use it.

Internationalization usually covers two different issues:

  • the repository speaks several languages not just English -- this is what usually called translation
  • the repository handles and accepts documents, authors, bibliographic info, search requests in other languages as well.

EPrints uses utf-8 encoding internally, enabling the usage of arbitrary character set in any data, or in any communications. The web pages and other messages are composed from language dependent phrases, which makes translating a relatively easy task.

EPrints has a mechanism for searching and indexing non-English language documents as well. This feature, however, has not been used (and tested) extensively yet.
