This page pertains to the buttons for controlloing the EPrints Indexer in the System Tools tab of the Admin web page for your repository web interface.

Start Indexer

This button starts the EPrints Indexer. This button will only be present in the System Tools menu if the EPrints Indexer is not already running. This is determined by whether there is a file called at EPRINTS_PATH/var/indexer.pid and the process for the ID it stores is still running.

Force Start Indexer

This button forcefully starts the EPrints Indexer. This button will only be present in the System Tools menu if the EPrints Indexer is (apparently) already running. Unlike Start Indexer this first tries to stop the EPrints Indexer and clean up the EPRINTS_PATH/var/indexer.pid and EPRINTS_PATH/var/indexer.tick files before starting the EPrints Indexer. Typically, you would only use this button if the EPrints Indexer was "running" but no indexer tasks were getting processed.

Stop Indexer

This button stops the EPrints Indexer. This button will only be present in the System Tools menu if the EPrints Indexer is already running. This is determined by whether there is a file called at EPRINTS_PATH/var/indexer.pid and the process for the ID it stores is still running.
